Zune is crap

I think that Microsoft's mp3 player (Zune) has no reason to exist.
Why? There is just a huge amount of better players: first of all the iPod and then Creative's products.

What's wrong with Zune:

1. Name: sounds like Zen (a Creative's mp3 player) plus iTunes (Apple's software to handle music)
2. Who made it: Microsoft didn't make it; Microsoft bought a truly unsuccessful product by Toshiba...
3. Size and weight: Zune (30GB) it's larger, thicker, taller and more heavy than the 80GB iPod!!! Why the hell would you buy it?! And it's only 30GB.
4. Battery life: its battery life is much shorter than iPod's
5. Wireless: you can't use Zune wireless to sync it with a PC, altought you can share music: you only have to wait hourse before it actually finishes up
6. Quality: iPod's quality is good (sound quality is very very good) while Zune screen cracks from battery pressure
7a. Software: Microsoft's software to handle the Zune is not even as easy as iTunes and its Music Store doesn't have as many song as the iTunes Store (which also has podcasts, videos, audio-books, ...)
7b. Software again: Zune cannot be used with Windows Media Player 11 (!!!) and wasn't, in its first release, compatible with Microsof't own Windows Vista!
7c. Software once again: what if you want to buy a song from the Zune Marketplace? I gues you're pretty sure you can't use your credit (or debit) card... well you can't! You have to use Microsoft's points! ...And you can't buy only one song you have to spend al least 5 dollars!
8. Storage: Zune only comes in a 30GB version while the iPod has a 80GB hard-drive; moreover Zune cannot be used as an external hard disk.
9. Money: Zune costs as much as a 30GB iPod but be aware that a small but consistent amount of the money you paid goes directly to discographers! You're right: Microsoft thinks you are a thief. So bad!
10. Availability: it's not even available in Europe...
11. Copycat: the Zune has a sort of button which really really looks like an iPod's click-wheel. But that's not all: it has copied the ugly and big form factor of the Archos line!
12. Color: Brown?!? OMG!

Conclusion: if you don't like the iPod don't hurt yourself buying a Zune, buy a Creative player!

I think that on the market there are a lot of useless product, but we live in a a world where "free market" is the law so on we can't prevent someone to sell its products.

I want to remind you that Zune is only the first version of this player and that the first iPod wasn't like the actual one.
Do you remember the first MacBook Pro model? It wasn't as much good as the other Intel notebooks...

Time... everything needs time.
On the other hand I don't think Windows Media Player 11 isn't as good as iTunes, and as soon as possible Microsoft will let a lot of online store to integrate with it.

Microsoft was obliged to pay a little fee to the mayor.

10. Color: Brown?!? OMG!

Zune is the first example of a mp3-player made in Redmond, and so far (IMHO) it's still a prototype, so it has a huge margin of improvement.
I think that Zune's worst things is its design, too iPod like. Sadly Microsoft didn't made a new mp3-player but only followed the trend of the moment, making a player with some interesting capabilities (such as wifi, the big display...), but also with a lack of personality (I hope the new release will be more original).
If I have to buy a new mp3-player today I'll surely buy a Creative Zen V Plus. It hasn't an iPoddish design, it has a fm radio, it has the better shape.

Looks like everyone here agrees that Zune is not mature yet. Nice.

So why should I buy it?
Is it better than an iPod? I think not.
Is it better than a creative player? Truly doubt it.

Why are people buying it? Mmmm...

PS: and I forgot... in its first release the Zune was NOT compatible with Windows Vista! Amazing!!

I don't have a Zune problem anymore. I used to ... software, recognition problems, etc. I took a hammer to my Zune. It felt good. No more problems. I'm commited to avoiding anything Microsoft if I can.

I brought zune 30G as a gift for my cousin. I brought it only because it was on sale for 99 bucks. For 99 bucks I think it offered more bang than any player.

I have Creative zen 30G, Archos 705 and Apple Iphone. I think each has its pros and cons. Archos though nice as DVR is very unstable needs a reboot every once in a while (or worse resets).

Ever since I brought Iphone I have stopped using all the other players simply because it does every thing...I use it at home in car and at work

Comparing Creative Zen and MS Zune, I think Zen wins hands down. Its super easy interface, compatibility with MS Media player and built in Mic are some great features (FM being present in both the players)..Other than that Zen feels better in hand with rounded ends and smooth texture (btw which scratches easily), zune's mat finish feels like it has dust on it. Zune is kind of boxy. Videos look better in zune cuz it has bigger screen but zen beats it in resolution....

Zune software plain crap...I dont know how MS even allowed it to be sold to customers..But again once you see vista nothing surprises you anymore....

Overall I would say if you get Zune real cheap on sale buy it...but if you are looking for a great player at decent price go for creative...If you want everything in nice package Iphone/touch is the way to go
